On June 29, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun had a phone call with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland at the latter’s request.

Zhai Jun briefed Tor Wennesland on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ visit to China, with a focus on the three-point proposal put forward by President Xi Jinping on the settlement of the Palestinian question. He noted that China is ready to continue to strengthen communication and coordination with the UN on the Palestinian question, support, as always, the UN’s mediation efforts, and jointly promote peace and stability in the Middle East.

Tor Wennesland spoke positively of the three-point proposal put forward by President Xi Jinping, highly commended China’s efforts to promote the settlement of the Palestinian question, and expected China to play a greater role in Middle East affairs.
